I had previously cut up all my paper and card into either A4 or A3 sheets. So I had piles of various watercolour papers. So quite often I would do 3 or 4 similar paintings using different celebrity portraits. This painting is similar to the previous painting (Harry Hamlin) in style. The blob on the top left is the watermark of the paper maker.
Instead of brown, this portrait is more "grey" for shadows and the suit. If you look closely you will find some yellow, orange, green and blue amongst the skin tones. I like using as many colours as I possibly can – it's more fun!
Once again I used a fine paintbrush for the hair, eyebrows, eyes, nose, tie and lots of other places. I didn't put any colour on the background as the paper was so old that it was a bit "creamy" in colour anyway. My favourite part is the tie. I don't know why. Maybe because it is violet – probably my favourite colour. Anyway. Happy with this one.
